Today I had to run a couple of quick errands. As I was unloading #3 and The Baby from the car, I noticed two women with two young children standing about 6 feet away from the open door of a car. The women seemed a little frantic as they stared into the car. I asked them if they were okay, and one of the women told me there was a snake in the car! I asked if it was a large snake, and she said she didn't know how big it was, she was too scared to look closer. So, I strapped The Baby into the stroller, and walked over to the car. I had to look, right? I have no idea what I thought I would do. I mean, NO WAY am I touching a snake! But I have a few sand toys in the back of my mini van, and a couple of beach umbrellas, so I thought MAYBE we could use something to whack the snake out of their car. Provided it wasn't a rattle snake or a man-eating anaconda, of course.
So, I cautiously approach their car, and what I see laying along the door jamb, is a dead blue bellied lizard! From end to end the lizard was at most 5 inches long. I was actually impressed that I was able to control my urge to laugh hysterically! I used a shovel and a bucket from my mini van, and scooped the poor deceased lizard out of the car. At first the two women didn't believe me when I told them it was a lizard, and it was dead. It was only after I pointed out the legs, and the fact that it wasn't running away from us, that they believed me!
The women thanked me profusely, and #3 thought I was a hero of epic proportions. Although, he was very concerned about how the lizard met his demise.
Merci!
